The Bear's DenKabukibear's Guitar Arrangements

Playing Catch-up

So, it occurred to me, through the observation of someone close to me, that something I mentioned kind of off-hand and dismissively was something that I really needed to work on, for this site.

I guess what I had said was "I don't always make a Patreon post when I upload something without a video." And she was pretty aghast at this. In her words: "You're decoupling your work from your visibility. Your patrons subscribed to stay close to what you make, but they only find out something exists if you also happened to film it. Five of those six recent tabs above had no associated Patreon post. They're just sitting on the website for people who check regularly. Most people don't check regularly. That's not a failing, it's just how attention works.

The patrons who leave probably aren't leaving because you're not making enough. They're leaving because they feel like nothing is happening. And nothing is happening to them, they're not being reached."

So, I'm going to try to integrate what I post here more deeply into my life...and post updates more regularly. Case in point, those tabs that I uploaded that I didn't make any accompanying posts for. That's as good a place to start with as any, so let's get them out of the way, and then when this happens in the future I'll be more cognizant of the point of "you posted a new tab, make a Patreon post to tell people about it!"

Anyway, the recent uploaded tabs that didn't have accompanying Patreon posts are:

Minuet in G Minor, BWV Anh. 115

  • This is a Minuet that is famously attributed to JS Bach but one that Bach didn't actually write. It's played at a brisk pace, which is typical for a Minuet, but I prefer THIS one a bit slower. There's a sad, longing to it that I felt like is better captured at a slower tempo.

Downstream - Braid

  • Ah, the famous violin, harp piece. The original is actually a couple of famous pieces put together, but one of the pieces gets a little repetitive if not played on the fiddle it was originally written for. So, think of this as an abridged version.

Midnight in Mondstadt - Genshin Impact

  • A short piece...I love Genshin Impact, and the music for the game is some of the best in all of game music. The full discography of music from this game is IMMENSE. You deserve it for yourself to look it up on Youtube and take a listen. The music spans every genre and there are multiple live concerts available to watch on Youtube.

Together With You - The Legend of Dragoon

  • I...honestly I don't remember much about this. This is probably a request from my Discord channel, but it's simple and unassuming. The full title is "Together In Peace With You" and I think that really fits the feel of the original. Very calm. Everything is ok.

Mast in the Mist - Uncharted Water 2

  • If you saw the little soundtrack spotlight I did about this, you know what this is. Yoko Kanno is the GOAT, and this track is no exception. Her music is incredible. This one was a must-do.

Our Terms - Final Fantasy XVI

  • This was one I had wanted to do for a while, but never managed to carve out enough time to do. I had heard another version of this played by a different video game guitarist. I thought I could do better, so I did. <.<

Rain - Shenmue

  • Another relatively short piece. The hope, for this one, is to make an advanced version of this. When I was playing around with it, I had a LOT of wicked ideas for it, but didn't have the time to write them out yet. I felt like, in the meantime, I should get the original written down at the very least, and then build and post the advanced arrangement later.

Caprice for Lute - Uncharted Waters 2

  • ANOTHER piece from Uncharted Waters 2, this is one directly FROM the Special Edition soundtrack. It's a transcription, rather than an arrangement, so you can hear this played live by going back and listening to the version on the Special Edition OST online. It's interesting, as I wouldn't qualify it as a Caprice, nor is it played on a Lute. But, I think she thought the name was impressive, and decided to name it this. It's fun to play!

The Man with the Machine Gun - Final Fantasy VIII

  • This was an older one I had found on a harddrive, with a couple others I hadn't uploaded to the site. I had never uploaded this because I was unhappy with the arrangement; there were a lot of dead spots where it was just a simple bass line with chords held over top...it wasn't particularly interesting or exciting. Rather than upload it in it's current state, I gave it a once over, and re-wrote large sections of it. I came up with something I was satisfied with...satisfied with enough that I felt confident posting it.

SO. That's what you've missed! Or, what I'VE neglected to inform you all about. I hope to be more on top of things in the future and, when I post an arrangement to the site, expect a much shorter little blurb on Patreon about it.

That's all for now. Stay well, and happy strumming.
